While this year's recital will be very different from past years, we are extremely excited to hold an in-person event! Based on the current Maryland & Howard County mandates, the 2021 Studio Dance recital will be held in "mini" recital performances. The recitals will take place at the Jim Rouse Theatre, at Wilde Lake High school on Thursday, June 10, Friday, June 11, and Saturday, June 12. We take great pride in the year-end productions and are elated to return to the stage this year!
There will be 3 Petite Recitals entitled Dancing through the Decades - Petite Show:
Petite Show A - Saturday, June 12 at 9:30 am
Petite Show B - Saturday, June 12 at 11:00 am
Petite Show C - Saturday, June 12 at 12:30 pm
Petite shows will be approximately 30 minutes long and contain 7-8 pieces. Every class assigned to a petite show will perform in ONE of the above shows.
There will be three themed shows:
Dancing Through the Decades - Thursday (Thursday, June 10, 5:00pm & 7:00pm)
Dancing Through the Decades - Friday (Friday, June 11, 5:00pm & 7:00pm)
Dancing Through the Decades - Saturday (Saturday, June 12, 2:30pm & 4:30pm)
Themed shows will be approximately 45 minutes long and contain 15-16 pieces. All classes assigned to a themed show will attend ONE DAY of performances and perform in BOTH shows on the scheduled day. Dancers in multiple classes may be assigned to more than one day.
April 17-May 22
Additional Saturday rehearsals have been scheduled at Studio Dans from April 10-May 22.
Please note not all classes will have a Saturday rehearsal. Attendance at Saturday rehearsals is highly recommended, and all dancers should do their best to attend, as this may be the only opportunity for all dancers to work together in the studio before taking the stage at dress rehearsal.
The schedule is subject to change. Reminders & updates will be emailed to each class.
Star-Light Studios will take individual & sibling photos at Studio Dans this year. Owned by Patty Sawyer & Daniel Bottner, Star-Light Studios has been providing professional portraits, dance photos, family portals, and much more, in Maryland since 1989. Photo Session Protocol:
Masks: Masks are optional during photos. Only the dancer, a Studio Dans staff member, and the photographer will be in the studio during photos. Studio Dans staff & the photographer will remain masked at all times. Dancers will be instructed to remove their masks once the photographer has them in place. Please contact Zoe (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you DO NOT want your dancer to remove their mask during photos.
Arrival: Please arrive at the studio 10 minutes before your timeslot, IN COSTUME WITH MAKEUP AND HAIR COMPLETE. Each slot is approximately 5 minutes long and arriving early will ensure we remain on time. Check-in will be held at the back door like classes.
During the photo session: Once checked in, dancers will wait for their turn on a blue dot in the hallway. To keep the number of people in the photo studio to a minimum, only the dancer, staff member and photographer will be in the photo studio. Once in the studio, the dancer will take their place in front of the photo backdrop.
Following Photos: After the photo session, the photographer will provide directions for accessing photo proofs. Proofs will be available to view shortly after the photo session. Photos can be ordered directly through the photographer. Click HERE to view ordering options.
Dancers in multiple pieces: Some dancers have multiple photo sessions in one day. If you have 1 hour or less between photos, a studio will be available to change your costume. If necessary 1 parent will be allowed to assist in the change at the studio. We ask that dancers with more than 1 hour between photo sessions leave the studio to change. Please contact Zoe (email@example.com) if any schedule adjustments are necessary to allow for enough changing time.
Costume Tips & Tricks:
Costumes: As you receive costumes, please store them by hanging them up in a safe place until the photoshoot. Minor alterations (darting, hemming, tacking, etc.) are the responsibility of the dancer/parents. Your local dry cleaner is a great resource for many of these alterations if you are unable to do them. NO NAIL POLISH OR JEWELRY (Unless given as part of the costume). If your child is barefoot in any of his/her dances, please remove toenail polish.
Shoes: Please make sure that your child has the required class shoes for the recital. They should be wearing the appropriate fit/size. Dance shoes should be clean and sticker-free.
Hair: Please slick hair back with hairspray and gel to ensure no "whispies" show in the photos. Hairstyles for photos are specific to each dance style. Please click on the links below to view tutorial videos:
Makeup: We ask that all dancers wear makeup for photoshoots and recitals. The harsh lights from the photo sand stage can wash out the dancer's faces. Makeup will ensure that their facial features are visible in the photos and the audience. Click HERE for step-by-step instructions.
Sunday, June 6th
Dress rehearsals will be held at Jim Rouse Theatre, in Columbia, MD. Rehearsals have been scheduled to match the order of the recitals and minimize the time that the dancers need to be at the theatre. Cleaning breaks have been scheduled to match the cleaning breaks between recital performances. We recognize that some of the call times are early in the morning. Thank you in advance for making arrangements to be on time for these rehearsals.
Recital tickets are available to purchase on Wednesday, May 5 beginning at 8 am
